Spirituality
Many individuals find their spirituality and faith important to them. Counseling can intertwine your beliefs and faith into your personal growth. Counseling may help with the feeling of spiritual "deadness" or loss. This time can be used to find the meanings and beliefs that matter most to you, and help establish a life that reflect your values.
Others, such as LGBT individuals and families, have experienced pain and rejection from their own faith groups. Counseling can be the beginning process of healing and potentially help reestablish the connections that matter most to you. However, if faith or religion does not currently have a part in your life, they don't have to have a part in your counseling. This is an additional service that is available as needed. Contact Carlos Mendoza, MA, LPC, for more information or for an appointment.
My approach to spiritual counseling is Integrative Psychotherapy by Mark McMinn. After identifying your goals, different levels of treatment are identified with corresponding spiritual activities and challenges. Levels include: the things you do, the thoughts you think, and the way you relate to others.
